Menopause in the workplace - the business case for taking action and how I can help

It may not come as a surprise that women over 50 represent a significant and growing share of the UK workforce. According to the Faculty of Occupational Medicine, almost eight in ten menopausal women are currently in work; equating to 10.5 million women navigating the various stages of menopause whilst managing careers, teams, and responsibilities.

Yet for too long, menopause has been treated as a private matter and something to be endured quietly rather than supported openly. The evidence tells a very different story.

A 2019 CIPD survey found that three in five menopausal women were negatively affected at work, and that almost 900,000 women in the UK had left their jobs because of menopausal symptoms. These are not just health statistics; they represent a significant and measurable cost to British industry through lost talent, increased absenteeism, and reduced productivity.

Forward-thinking organisations are already recognising that creating a menopause-friendly workplace is not simply the right thing to do it is smart business. And with large UK employers now required to publish their Menopause Action Plans from April 2026, the window to act proactively rather than reactively is now.

Why I Do This Work

I have personal experience of the debilitating symptoms and profound isolation that early menopause can bring and I experienced it whilst working in a demanding corporate role.

That experience, combined with my background in Media, L&D and Wellbeing and my clinical nutrition training is what drives my passion for this work. I know first-hand what it feels like to struggle in silence, and I know exactly what difference the right support can make.

I now work with organisations across the UK to equip HR teams and line managers with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to handle menopause conversations sensitively and effectively. The result is a workplace where women feel genuinely supported and where the organisation benefits from reduced absenteeism, stronger retention, and a more inclusive culture.
